Albert A. Abbott papers, 1844-1934.

Papers of a Minneapolis businessman who was the son of Protestant missionaries in India. They include his 1934 autobiography (197 p., typed) commenting on his life (1857-1865) in India, education at New Ipswich (N.H.) Academy and Dartmouth College (1865-1871), teaching experiences in Tennessee and Nebraska, and life (1883-1934) in Minneapolis. The papers also contain a diary (1865) of his ocean voyage from India to the United States; a speech he made at a family reunion (1869); a narrative describing a 1925 trip to Arkansas; and a few miscellaneous family and genealogical papers.

The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Dartmouth College Case was held on April 9, 1969, in the Court of Claims, Washington, D.C.; the celebration also commemorated the career of Daniel Webster, the advocate who defended the case before the Supreme Court. During the ceremony Justice Earl Warren, Senator Thomas J. MacIntyre, and Dartmouth College President John Sloan Dickey spoke before an audience of legislators, jurists, historians, and alumni....
